I helped lead Scouts from my troop to build a compost bin for MSUMC's Garden of Promise, where people can rent plots of land to grow food for themselves or the community. Most grow food for local food banks around Kernersville. I also helped to remove some old compost, they did not have a bin because the old one rotted out and they had to trash it, consequently they just put their compost in a pile on the asphalt of the parking lot. Now they have a dedicated wooden bin to put that compost in. Now untreated wood was used because of the chemicals inside of treated wood it would seep into the compost and then the food they grew and that would not have been good. A consequence of that though is the wood will rot and deteriorate much quicker.
